HAIR EXTENSION CARE & MAINTENANCE
HAIR EXTENSION CARE GUIDE
-
BRUSHING: Use a wide-toothed comb or a brush specifically designed for extensions to detangle your hair. Start from the ends and work your way up to the roots, being careful not to pull or tug on the extensions.
WASH: Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, and avoid applying conditioner directly to the weft. Instead, focus on the mid-lengths and ends of your natural hair. Gently massage the scalp and rinse thoroughly to remove any product buildup.
AVOID EXCESSIVE WASHING: It's best to wash your hair extensions only when necessary to prevent them from becoming dry and brittle. Aim for washing them every 3-5 days if possible.
USE HEAT PROTECTANT: Before using any heat styling tools, such as flat irons or curling irons, apply a heat protectant spray to shield the extensions from heat damage.
SLEEPING: Before going to bed, loosely braid or tie your hair in a ponytail to prevent tangling and matting while you sleep. Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase can also help reduce friction and frizz.
SWIMMING: Avoid exposing your hair extensions to chlorine, saltwater, and excessive sunlight, as these can cause fading, dryness, and damage. If you plan on swimming, keep your hair tied up to minimize contact with water.
MAITENANCE APPOINTMENTS: Schedule every 6-8 weeks for maintenance appointments. This is to check the condition of the extensions, tighten the wefts, and make any necessary adjustments.
AVOID PULLING OR TUGGING: Refrain from pulling or tugging on the extensions, as this can lead to damage or even hair loss. Treat the extensions gently and avoid any excessive tension or force.
-
AVOID WASHING FOR THE FIRST 48 HOURS:After the installation of K-tip extensions, it's important to refrain from washing your hair for the first 48 hours. This allows the keratin bonds to fully set and ensures better longevity.
BRUSH BEFORE WASHING: Gently brush your hair and extensions with a wide-toothed comb or a brush specifically designed for extensions to remove any tangles or knots before washing.
USE SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOO: When washing your hair with K-tip extensions, opt for a sulfate-free and gentle shampoo. Avoid applying conditioner directly to the bond area as it can weaken the keratin bonds.
WASH WITH CARE: Wet your hair thoroughly and apply a small amount of shampoo to your scalp. Gently massage the scalp with the pads of your fingers, avoiding excessive rubbing or tangling with the extensions. Rinse thoroughly to remove all shampoo residue. Then, condition from mid-lengths to ends, avoiding the bond area.
AVOID HOT WATER AND EXCESSIVE HEAT: Rinse your hair and extensions with lukewarm or cool water instead of hot water, as high temperatures can weaken the keratin bonds. Additionally, minimize the use of heat styling tools to avoid damaging the extensions.
DRY HAIR GENTLY: After washing, gently squeeze out excess water from your hair without rubbing or twisting. Avoid vigorous towel drying and gently dry with a microfiber towel. Use a soft-bristle brush or a loop brush designed for extensions to detangle your hair, then apply a heat protectant and gently blowdry in sections.
AVOID PULLING OR TUGGING: Refrain from pulling or tugging on the extensions, as this can weaken the bonds or cause damage. Treat your hair gently and avoid any excessive tension or force.
MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENTS: Schedule maintenance appointments every 12-16 weeks. This is to inspect the condition of the extensions and make any adjustments that may be needed.
-
BRUSH BEFORE WASHING: Before washing your hair with tape-in extensions, gently brush your hair and extensions with a wide-toothed comb or a brush specifically designed for extensions. This helps remove any tangles or knots and prevents further tangling during the washing process.
USE A SULFATE FREE AND LIGHTWEIGHT SHAMPOO: Use a sulfate-free and lightweight shampoo when washing your hair with tape-in extensions. Apply the shampoo to the scalp and gently massage, avoiding excessive rubbing or tugging on the extensions.
CONDITION FROM MID-LENGTHS TO ENDS: Apply conditioner from the mid-lengths to the ends of your hair, avoiding the tape attachment area. Leave the conditioner on for a few minutes to moisturize your hair, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid applying conditioner directly on the tapes, as it can weaken the adhesive.
AVOID EXCESSIVE HEAT STYLING: Minimize the use of heat styling tools such as flat irons, curling irons, and blow dryers, as high heat can make the adhesive difficult to remove. If you do use heat styling tools, use them on a low or medium heat setting and apply a heat protectant spray prior to styling.
TIE HAIR BEFORE SLEEPING: Before going to bed, loosely braid or tie your hair in a low ponytail to prevent tangling and matting while you sleep. This helps keep the extensions in place and reduces the risk of them becoming tangled
AVOILD OILY OR GREASY HAIR PRODUCTS: Avoid applying heavy or oily hair products near the scalp or tape attachment area, as they can cause the tapes to slip or lose their adhesive strength. Stick to lightweight and oil-free products when styling your hair.
AVOID PULLING OR TUGGING: Refrain from pulling or tugging on the extensions, as this can cause damage to both your natural hair and the adhesive tapes. Be gentle when brushing, styling, and handling your hair to avoid unnecessary stress on the extensions.
MINIMIZE EXPOSURE TO WATER AND MOISTURE: Excessive exposure to water and moisture can weaken the adhesive tapes. Avoid prolonged exposure to water, such as long showers or swimming, and use a shower cap to protect the extensions when showering. If the extensions do get wet, gently pat them dry with a towel and ensure they are completely dry before styling.
MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENTS: Schedule maintenance appointments every 4-6 weeks to remove extensions and reinstall.
